Weather Awareness Service for Electronic Flight Bags (eWAS) offers airline pilots a comprehensive weather overview for their flights. The application provides the latest observations and forecasts in a unique horizontal and vertical view, offering a clear 4D perspective including time information. eWAS data can be utilized on the ground for enhanced flight preparation and also during the flight to receive continuous updates. Through specific on-board integration, data can be received via satellite or ACARS communication, utilizing new data formats and compression techniques to minimize communication costs when uplinking forecasts with limited bandwidth. Additionally, ATC flight plans can be directly requested from eWAS ground servers or copied from the flight folder.
